BUENOS AIRES, Argentina—On the heels of closing its German-based handset business, BenQ has also decided to shutter operations in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, according to El Cronista, an Argentinian newspaper.
The closures may also extend to the company’s operations in Brazil, according to El Cronista. Ironically, the vendor had announced plans early last month to boost investment in Manaus, Brazil, plant by about $4.6 million.
The beleaguered handset vendors’ Argentinian operations run the operations in Paraguay and Uruguay, the newspaper said.
BenQ said in the wake of its announcement that it would stop investing in its German operations that it would continue to use design and manufacturing facilities in Asia to serve select markets.
