MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.—VeriSign Inc. said AOL has agreed to use its computer-to-wireless messaging technology in North America.
The Internet giant will use VeriSign’s ENUM Data Access Service, which is designed to deliver messages more efficiently and economically between IP and traditional telephone networks. The technology supports instant messaging, text messaging and voice calls by transforming a phone number into a platform-agnostic address.
The pact “is a strong statement of the power of ENUM in action and VeriSign’s ability to deliver on new technologies for the convergence of all types of communications,” said Bill Wolfe, VeriSign’s senior vice president of communications.
