SAN FRANCISCO—Sprint Nextel Corp. and mobile application developer AirPlay are targeting football fans with an interactive offering that allows users to predict plays during NFL games.
The carrier launched an NFL-licensed, downloadable application, dubbed AirPlay Live, that asks users to predict whether a team will run or pass and which player will get the ball during each play. Subscribers accrue points for correct predictions and can chart results and rankings though a nationwide leaderboard.
Sprint Nextel is offering the service to its Power Vision users for $4 a month; text messaging and data usage rates also apply.
The service complements Sprint’s exclusive, five-year deal with the NFL that allows the carrier to deliver exclusive game highlights, updated scores and live game video. The pact, which was signed last year, is reportedly worth $600 million.
