Network management and diagnostics specialist Tektronix Inc. says carriers are looking to measure service quality and the customer experience, hence the company unfurled enhancements to its Unified Assurance platform, which is the foundation of the company’s Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem solution.
Tektronix said its performance measurement tool covers fixed, mobile and converged networks, offering operators the service view they need to manage increasingly complex networks. In addition, Tektronix pointed out that its IMS offering helped solidify interoperability with non-IMS environments during field trials and early commercial deployments of IMS networks.
While IMS-based networks enhance the customer’s experience, these networks also increase the complexity of network management.
Gary McFarlane, director of communications business marketing for Tektronix, told RCR Wireless News that biting competition is forcing carriers to shift to measuring in real-time the quality of their networks and its impact on the customer experience. “Customers expect things to work,” said McFarlane. “And they won’t relax their expectations when services are offered via converged networks.”
Specifically, Tektronix said it enhanced the Unified Assurance suite to include additional IMS technical capabilities and protocol support for converged voice, Voice over IP, peer to peer video services as well as presence-based applications.
