PARIS-Alcatel and Lucent Technologies Inc. said they have closed their merger and will begin operating as a single entity today. Alcatel-Lucent’s stock also will begin trading on the Euronext Paris and New York Stock Exchange beginning today under the ALU ticker.
Serge Tchuruk has been appointed chairman of the board of Alcatel-Lucent, while Patricia Russo has been named chief executive officer of the company.
The combined company will operate five business groups focusing separately on wireline, wireless, convergence, enterprise and service business.
The company said it will reduce its worldwide work force by about 9,000 employees in connection with the merger.
The company also showed off its new logo, which includes an “A-L” brushstroke inside a purple dot.
