SCHAUMBURG, Ill.-Motorola Inc.’s investment arm led a second round of funding for California-based software developer Mobile Complete.
Financial terms were not disclosed, although Mobile Compete reportedly raked in $10 million in the Series B round. Existing investor Innovacom VC also participated in the funding.
Mobile Complete’s flagship offering, dubbed Direct-to-Device, is a virtual handset testing service that is designed to eliminate the need for mobile developers to buy handsets and wireless services to test their wares. The company’s clients include AOL, Microsoft Corp., Cingular Wireless L.L.C. and Sprint Nextel Corp.
The startup said it will use the cash to “rapidly expand” its service, which has been deployed across 10 carrier networks in five geographic markets.
“Motorola’s intense focus on quality aligns with Mobile Complete’s focus on improving device manufacturers’ ability to rapidly test and deploy software,” said Warren Holstberg, Motorola’s corporate vice president of equity investments. “We believe its Direct-to-Device technology enables the larger mobile devices ecosystem and developer community to more quickly and cost-efficiently develop and monitor applications across a range of Motorola handsets running on wireless operators’ networks globally.”
