Glu nabs Warner Bros. licensing deal

Glu Mobile Inc. is expanding its portfolio of licensed content with a new partnership with Warner Bros. Digital Distribution.
The San Mateo, Calif.-based publisher said it has secured worldwide rights to develop, market and distribute games and other mobile offerings from new film releases as well as Warner franchises DC Comics, Looney Tunes and Hanna-Barbara. Glu also announced a separate deal to distribute games in North and South America from the films “Ocean’s Thirteen” and “300.”
While some publishers have slammed the industry for focusing on branded games, Glu has made substantial traction by offering familiar names to mobile gamers. The company has deals with Twentieth Century Fox and Fox Sports, and offers mobile versions of classic games such as Monopoly, Clue and Battleship.
“Glu has demonstrated their ability to create the highest quality games and make them available to a broad audience of mobile consumers worldwide,” said Maria Seidman, VP of sales development for Warner Bros. Digital Distribution. “We’re excited to partner with Glu and benefit from their expertise in the mobile space.”
Shares of Glu, one of the only publicly traded pure-plays in mobile gaming, gained about 2 percent following the announcement, climbing to $11.50.
