The Open Mobile Terminal Platform, an operator-driven organization that makes recommendations to the handset industry on security, hardware, operating systems and browsers, announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Wireless Internet Standardization Forum.
Under the terms of the deal, the two organizations agreed to collaborate as they aim to drive international standards for mobile and IP-based services throughout the world. KWISF, which created the Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability, said it also plans to incorporate OMTP recommendations in its future specifications.
“OMTP has been following the WIPI story over the last few years and share a number of common members and participants,” OMTP Chairman Anders Wasterlid said. “We are impressed with the way in which KWISF has helped reduce fragmentation in the Korean market. OMTP remains similarly committed to making the mobile world easier and less confusing for consumers and we’re delighted to formalize our relationship in this way.”
