Sanef announced that it has acquired location-services firm Webraska for an undisclosed sum. The European telecom infrastructure management company said the move will help it gain a foothold in the satellite navigation and geospatial technologies markets.
Webraska’s properties include GPS-based navigation applications that support maps, traffic information and other transportation content. Some of Webraska’s customers include Yahoo Inc., Orange, Vodafone Group plc, Toyota and Qualcomm Inc.
“With this acquisition, Sanef is now positioned as one of the largest providers of telematics solutions in Europe, with a complete offering going from fleet management and satellite navigation to traffic information and electronic toll collection. We are ready for tomorrow’s largest challenges in electronic tolling,” said Henri Jannet, general manager of Sanef.
“This will allow us to serve our customers even better by broadening our offering to include business applications and real-time positioning platforms, and by brining the financial stability required to respond to the acceleration in the demand for GPS navigation, location-based services, fleet management, electronic tolling, and in general to all the services linked to the location of people and vehicles,” said Jean-Michel Durocher, founder and vice president of Webraska.
The move comes as location services continue to gain traction among cellphone users.
