The Mobile Entertainment Forum announced a record number of applications for this year’s Meffys awards, marking a 50% increase from last year. Music-focused applications attracted the most entries, followed closely by gaming and then TV and video.
The Meffys, which are in their fourth year, honor innovators in the field of mobile entertainment. The awards are judged by national media and leading trade journalists and analysts.
“This year’s entries proved that the mobile entertainment industry is set to meet its global revenue target of $38 billion by 2011, with an array of applications and services that make it easy and appealing for the consumer to discover and purchase content on the go,” said MEF Executive Director Rimma Perelmuter.
MEF released finalists in 13 categories ranging from technology innovation to search and discovery. There were five finalists in each category, except for the handset and operator awards, which were narrowed to three.
The winners of this year’s Meffys will be announced June 5 at a gala dinner in Monte Carlo’s Fairmont Hotel.
