Leap Wireless International Inc. is using TechnoCom Corp. for testing and optimizing E911 services for the carrier’s Cricket offering, enabling the carrier to potentially offer location-based services as well-a step the carrier has not made a decision on, according to a spokesperson.
TechnoCom said its platform allows Leap to automate its evaluation of an E911 system, in part by installing a device into the carrier’s field vehicles to automate test calls and resulting data collection.
Greg Lund, a Leap spokesperson, said that the deal with TechnoCom is aimed at complying with federal mandates for E911 service. Lund said that while Leap does not yet offer location-based services, the work devoted to putting an E911 service in place could allow it to pursue location-based services, if it chooses. Lund said such a decision has yet to be made.
TechnoCom, based in Encino, Calif., serves government agencies, auto makers and wireless service providers with mobile location solutions.
