More than meets the eye
Glu Mobile Inc. launched a mobile game and content associated with the upcoming Transformers movie due out July 4. The launch is the first release from a licensing agreement between Glu and Hasbro Inc. The Transformers mobile game casts players as Optimus Prime in a mission to help the Autobots find the Allspark, a source of energy hidden on Earth. In addition to the game, fans will be able to customize their phones with a choice of more than 30 Transfomers-related wallpapers, screensavers and voice tones.

Forecast: SMS with chance of voice
The Weather Channel Interactive Inc. launched an alert service that delivers local weather updates via short message service or text messages and e-mail. The company is offering the service free to customers who sign up at its Web site and choose which weather conditions they want to receive alerts about. Consumers may also choose a premium service that provides voice alerts.

CTIA took an unusual tact to remind people that AMBER alerts work. Hoping to inspire people to register for the wireless alerts on child abductions, the association unveiled a Wireless AMBER alerts van that is being driven around the Washington, D.C., area. Messaging on the side of the van reads: “Nothing on this van tells you that an abducted child is inside. Something on your cellphone could.” The messaging on the van is based on the current national public service advertising campaign.
