The following list includes venture capital and other investments into wireless companies announced during the past week. The value of the investment is included when available.
–3P Networks: 3P Networks Inc. and Quote Platform Syndicate Inc. signed an underwriting agreement that calls for 3P to get $12 million via a 5-year convertible debenture financing. The financing is scheduled to close Aug. 13. 3P Networks said it plans to acquire targeted telecommunications assets and WiMAX spectrum to build out its triplet play service in the Caribbean.
–Action Engine: Baker Capital led a $20 million round of venture funding into Action Engine Corp. Current investors Northwest Venture Associates and The Spangler Group also participated. The company said its funding now totals $65 million. ActionEngine said it will use the funding to drive sales, marketing and customer-implementation functions.
–Aerohive: Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers led a $20 million Series B venture-capital financing round into Aerohive Networks, which provides cooperative control wireless LAN access points. Existing investors Northern Light Venture Capital and Lightspeed Venture Partners also participated in the round. The company said it has raised a total of more than $24 million in venture funding to date. The new funds will be used to expand sales and marketing and to continue development of the company’s products.
–Bridgewave: A group of existing investors made a $7.8 million investment into Bridgewave Communications, which provides gigabit wireless solutions. The Series C financing round also included funding from new investors SDL Ventures and Intel Capital. Bridgewave said it will use the capital to expand sales, marketing, service and manufacturing functions.
–DeCarta: Norwest Venture Partners invested $15 million into deCarta, which provides software and services for the location-based services industry. The Series C-1 expansion round was also supported by Mobius Venture Capital and Cardinal Venture Capital. The company said it will use the funding to grow into new markets and expand its international reach.
–Vringo: Warburg Pincus invested $12 million in Vringo, which provides video ringtone sharing services. The Series B round of funding will be used for global expansion, said the company. George Allen, a principal at Warburg Pincus, joins the company’s board or directors in connection with the financing.
