On a motorcycle trip far, far away
Actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman recently drove the “Long Way Down” from Scotland to the southern tip of Africa on motorcycle with navigation help from the Nokia 6110 Navigator. The device was released last week in South Africa. The pair, which spent three months on their trek, used the Nokia 6110 Navigator to route their path and keep in contact with friends and family. They began their journey in May in John O’Groats, Scotland, and traveled through 20 countries, finishing last week in Cape Town.

An Italian commuter with a cellphone and plenty of time on his hands has written a book on his phone. Robert Bernocco, an IT professional, wrote a 384-page science fiction novel on his Nokia phone using the phone’s T9 typing system, said a Reuters article. Bernocco wrote in standard Italian rather than using messaging shorthand. He downloaded paragraphs from his phone onto his home computer for proofreading and editing.

Campuswide calling
The University of Notre Dame won the Institutional Excellence in Communications Technology Award given by the Association for Communications Technology Professionals in Higher Education. The university won the award for its Transforming Communications initiative, which is based on a mobile communications model. Notre Dame installed a multicarrier cellular distributed antenna system to provide cellular communications across its campus in South Bend, Indiana. It also added 500 Wi-Fi access points and removed more than 3,300 traditional landlines in student housing facilities.

Game goal: famous and scandalous
Artificial Life Inc. said it is partnering with Oxygen Media to develop a 3G mobile game based on the reality show The Bad Girls Club.
The game is scheduled to launch later this month.
The game offers 3D avatars based on the show’s characters and locations based on the show’s house. Game players will assume the role of a new member joining the house with the goal of becoming famous and scandalous.
Artificial Life and Oxygen said they also have plans for several 2G games based on the show in the coming months.
