Itsmy.com hears the music

Mobile social networking site itsmy.com added a music offering to its service, enabling users to personalize their pages with polyphonic ringtone-like tracks from more than 2,000 sound clips.
Gofresh, which operates the popular site, introduced a library of tunes produced by international DJs designed to be used as background music on members’ sites. The German outfit bills the songs as “a tribute to the good old midi ringtone,” minimizing bandwidth requirements and capable of being played “by every mobile phone.”
Itsmy.com targets mobile users in the United States and United Kingdom with an ad-supported service, and claims to power more than 600,000 personal wireless home pages. Gofresh said it plans to introduce “real music formats” and MP3s early next year as well as a music content locker allowing users to store their tunes online.
“With the background tones integrated in itsmy.com, the last feature which has been an advantage of the classical Internet is now history,” said Vince Staybl, CEO of Gofresh. “The need to go home to check your latest community news or to be forced to use a ‘light’ version of an Internet community on your handset no longer exists.”
