Taking a page from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, copy writers for Samsung Telecommunications America wrote today that the vendor had delivered the “most wanted” features in a flip phone for customer T-Mobile USA.
The Beat, aka the SGH-t539, will sell for $100 with a two-year contract.
The phone at retail includes a 1 GB memory card, wired stereo Bluetooth headset and expandable memory up to 2 GB. In that sense, the two companies are following the current trend in bundling handsets with accessories for immediate, “out of box” use. The expandable memory option also reflects how handset vendors and carriers are leaving the decision about memory capacity in the hands of consumers, which is driving memory cards to top-selling status among accessories, according to a recent report from ABI Research.
The GSM/GPRS/EDGE handset is quad-band and offers the familiar gamut of messaging options and a 1.3-megapixel camera.
With the Beat, Samsung provides 9 of T-Mobile’s 34 current handset offerings. Research In Motion Ltd. has nine SKUs (stock keeping units), Motorola Inc. has six and Nokia Corp. has five.
