Carriers
–Verizon Wireless signed a deal with Innopath, to provide the carrier with firmware-over-the-air capabilities. While behind some of its competitors in providing FOTA capabilities to its handsets, the move shows Verizon Wireless is not about to leave any stoned unturned.
Handsets
–HTC Corp. partnered with Sprint Nextel to launch its Touch smartphone domestically, a device designed to compete against Apple’s wildly popular iPhone that is currently available exclusively through AT&T Mobility. While the device may lack some of the cool features available on the iPhone, the Touch does offer some competitive network advantages due to its availability through Sprint Nextel.
Content
–Apple announced plans to launch a software development kit for its iPhone and iPod Touch devices in February in an attempt to foster the creation of third-party software for the devices. The move is seen as a way to placate developers and consumers who have to this point used other means to port content to the Apple products.
