Strategy Analytics: iPhone is top-seller at AT&T Mobility

The Apple Inc. iPhone has been AT&T Mobility’s top-selling handset since its launch June 29, according to new data from Strategy Analytics, and is now the fourth-hottest selling device on the United States market.
“The iPhone has quickly assumed a leading market-share position (in the U.S.) and raised the ante for smart devices,” said Barry Gilbert, analyst at Strategy Analytics. “The sales trajectory we are observing with the iPhone could make it the top-selling device in the U.S. over the next one to two quarters.”
AT&T Mobility and Apple retail stores sold about 1,325,000 devices since the device’s launch, according to Strategy Analytics’ projections.
Currently, Motorola Inc.’s Razr v3 is the top-seller in the U.S., but appears to be losing momentum, Gilbert said. The top 10 handsets garner 25% of all sales in a typical quarter, he said.
Strategy Analytics confirmed that most iPhone buyers are young, affluent males, but 25% of buyers were between 50 and 60 years old, demonstrating the device’s broad appeal.
