Sprint Nextel Corp. and MobiTV Inc. have put together a multi-year agreement to continue offering mobile TV services to the carrier’s subscribers. The announcement coincided with MobiTV’s news that it passed the 3-million-subscriber mark.
“After a very short time in my role as MobiTV’s new CEO and chairman, I’m proud to announce such a significant milestone on behalf of the company,” said Charlie Nooney, the company’s recently appointed CEO. “MobiTV’s persistence and innovation has single-handedly advanced awareness and demand for on-the-go programming and viewing. It’s inspiring to see this level of growth and demand, but most importantly that consumers rely on our services for their mobile entertainment and informational needs.”
MobiTV said it added the latest million customers during the past six months.
As for the company’s deal with Sprint Nextel, the carrier offers Sprint TV, Sprint TV Extra and Sprint TV en Vivo services in conjunction with MobiTV. The two companies said they have attracted “a large number of subscribers,” but did not offer specifics.
They also said they plan to expand the service over the next several months, with features including a new, easier-to-use interface for all of the services which MobiTV supports, including Sprint Nextel’s Pivot offering with cable; “significant” video quality enhancements and more support for full-screen viewing; faster channel-change speeds; and support for more devices.
