Mountain high
Trango Systems Inc. said it is supplying the Mount Washington Observatory with highspeed fixed wireless point-to-point wireless backhaul and point-to-multipoint broadband access equipment.
Mount Washington Observatory is a scientific weather research station based in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Mount Washington is the tallest peak in the northeastern U.S. The observatory collects, records and relays critical weather data and images.
Operating the broadband network “poses extreme challenges since winter temperatures commonly drop into the negative 30s and average yearly temperatures only reach 27.2 degrees,” Trango said.

Forget the stamp
Skycore launched a Web-based multimedia messaging service allowing users to create multimedia greeting cards to send to cellphones. The MMS Composer allows users to upload pictures and audio files, edit them into a slideshow and send them immediately or via scheduled delivery. Messages can be created free of charge, but the company charges 20 cents to send each message. “Sending thoughtfully composed, intimate, humorous or inspirational messages can be especially meaningful when received on someone’s mobile phone since it is often their most personal of communications devices,” said Richard Eicher, CEO of Skycore.

Red Sox go with Bluesocket
Bluesocket Inc. said the Boston Red Sox organization deployed its technology to provide secure guest access, additional network bandwidth and wireless coverage for members of the media and facilities personnel during its playoff season. The Red Sox deployed Bluesocket’s BlueSecure 5200 Controller platform. Media members at Fenway Park registered through a Red Sox-branded Web portal and were able to file stories and send digital photos in real time, said Bluesocket. The team also used Bluesocket’s management system to monitor network usage patterns and manage bandwidth.
