A new report from Visant Strategies predicts the next generation of WiMAX devices will spur both fixed and mobile growth for the 802.16 industry.
The report said WiMAX vendors are promoting Wave 2 device advantages, which include multiple-in/multiple-out antenna technology and interoperability, before certification of the Wave 2 standard begins. The certification process is expected late in 2008.
“Bringing Wave 2 technologies out will accelerate the WiMAX industry position in the DSL/cable modem replacement market, a segment that is currently providing the WiMAX industry with 50% annual growth,” said Andy Fuertes of Visant Strategies. “We see over 20 million fixed WiMAX subscribers in 2013.”
Visant said some chip vendors have skipped Wave 1 certification in favor of Wave 2 opportunities.
