Sling Media Inc. announced its video-viewing software will run on Blackberry devices starting later this year. The company will demonstrate the new application on Research in Motion’s Blackberry Pearl 8120 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week.
Sling Media said the BlackBerry application will be available for $30. The company has already released Windows Mobile, Symbian and Palm OS versions of the software.
Customers who purchase the application can also transfer the software to alternate handsets should they decide to upgrade devices.
“Blackberry compatibility is one of the most frequent customer requests, so we’re excited to show our SlingPlayer Mobile software running on the Blackberry platform,” said Blake Krikorian, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Sling Media.
The software gives Slingbox owners the ability to watch and control their home TV setup from a variety of mobile gadgets using either 3G cellular or Wi-Fi connectivity. EchoStar Communications Corp. recently purchased Sling Media for $380 million.
