Promising to take consumers “beyond music” with a music-centric phone — a tri-band HSDPA Walkman W760 — Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications offered two Walkman handsets yesterday in a prelude to the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas.
The W760 offers built-in GPS with the vendor’s “Wayfinder Navigator” that helps locate 20 million “points of interest” around the world. The phone also offers widescreen orientation for advanced gaming, and a 3.2-megapixel camera.
The W760 will be offered in the second quarter in two versions, one a UMTS/HSDPA tri-band model and the other a GSM/GPRS/EDGE quad-band model.
Separately, the W350 is the vendor’s first flip phone with external music controls. The company’s PR copy mentions “affordable,” although specific prices were not given with either Walkman model. The phone is a tri-band GSM model, including one version for the United States, which is due in the second quarter.
The company also expanded its budget line with the Z555, a clamshell model. Three new Bluetooth headsets were introduced, as was a “Design Collection” of leather bags for Sony Ericsson phones.
