Verizon Wireless said Guitar Hero III Mobile is its third-best-selling game of 2007 after only a few weeks of availability. The game, developed by Hands-On Mobile, was launched Dec. 4 to a limited number of handsets. Guitar Hero III Mobile is currently the top-selling game available from Verizon Wireless, said Hands-On. The adaptation from the popular console game allows users to play different guitars and three venues. Players are challenged to hit number keys in sync with colored notes that scroll on the screen.

Tennis star Maria Sharapova has signed on as Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications’ global brand ambassador. The exclusive four-year contract calls for Sharapova to participate in new consumer brand campaigns. Sharapova also will work with the handset maker to develop a new line of products and accessories. The company said its agreement with Sharapova complements its $88 million global title sponsorship of the Women’s Tennis Association Tour.

Pizza Hut is the latest piemaker to go mobile with a wireless Web site and text offering that allows users to order pizzas from their phones. The Dallas-based chain established a Web page instructing users how to send orders to the short code 749488 (749HUT). Customers with Internet-enabled phones can visit pizzahut.com to access a simplified menu and store locator. Users must log on to the company’s site to create a personalized menu of up to four orders before using either service.
