AT&T Mobility is providing Web-hungry users with free Internet. The catch? They must already be an AT&T customer.
Qualifying AT&T Mobility LaptopConnect customers who subscribe to the carrier’s $60-per-month DataConnect plan can now access more than 17,000 Wi-Fi hot spots powered by parent company AT&T Inc. for no additional charge.
LaptopConnect customers will be notified by a little pop-up message when they’re within range of a Wi-Fi hot spot, and simply need to click a button to connect. Qualifying wireline broadband subscribers will also be invited to jump on the “free Wi-Fi” train, and AT&T plans to provide some of their other customers with this perk in the future.
AT&T recently began powering the Wi-Fi hot spots at about 7,000 Starbucks Corp. locations, a deal it snared from rival T-Mobile USA Inc.
