LiveTV to buy Verizon’s Airfone business

LiveTV L.L.C. said it will buy Verizon Communications Inc.’s Airfone business, a move the JetBlue Airways subsidiary said will anchor its in-flight e-mail and messaging platform.
“Airfone was the pioneer of in-flight connectivity,” said Nate Quigley, CEO of LiveTV. “We look forward to building upon the foundation they have laid to bring email and messaging to all air travelers.”
The price of transaction was not given. LiveTV did not immediately return a call for comment.
LiveTV, founded in 1998 and based in Melbourne, Fla., said is the world’s leading provider of live in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems for commercial airlines. The company said it has installation and maintenance locations around the world to support the more than 500 aircraft equipped with its products. Current customers include Continental, JetBlue, Frontier, AirTran, ExpressJet, Air One, Virgin Blue and WestJet.
