Mobile Internet service users will increase from 577 million today to more than 1.7 billion by 2013, according to a new report from Juniper Research.
The growth will be driven by demand for collaborative applications known as Web 2.0 and greater 2.5 and 3G penetration. Juniper pointed to applications such as social networking, user-generated content, instant messaging and location-based services as Web 2.0 applications that will drive growth of the market.
Juniper said established mobile players will face competition from Web-based brands and will have to adapt their commercial strategies to allow more collaboration with other members of the value chain.
