The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–China: China Mobile has signed multiple contracts with Motorola, valued at a total of $431 million, for GSM network upgrades and expansion.
WiMAX
–Russia: Comstar-United TeleSystems has chosen Nortel Network‘s mobile WiMAX solution for a new network in Moscow that will provide high-speed Internet access to support mobile applications. Alvarion, through its partnership with Nortel, also will provide equipment for the deployment.
Miscellaneous
–China: Andrew and Siemens said they were chosen to provide an advanced wireless communications system for the CRH3 Harmony multiple unit train system that runs between Beijing and Tianjin. Andrew supplied MIR-T in-train repeaters for the project.
–United States: Johnson County, Kans., has deployed NetMotion‘s Mobile Virtual Private Network solution to support its law enforcement and emergency personnel.
