Infrastructure awards wrap-up: Nokia Siemens Networks, Aruba, Fujitsu and more

The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–Japan: NTT DoCoMo has chosen Fujitsu Ltd. to be a supplier of core network systems for the carrier’s next-generation Super 3G high-speed wireless communications network. Fujitsu will supply components of the core network system Evolved Packet Core, which consists of S-GW systems for data transmissions and P-GW systems for connecting the core network to corporate and other external networks.
–Serbia: Telekom Srbija has chosen an energy-efficient solution from Nokia Siemens Networks to extend its 2G and 3G network. The project includes 2G and 3G radio and core equipment and services including network implementation, integration and care and an upgrade of the network and service management solution to reduce dropped calls.
–Uzebekistan: Nokia Siemens Networks said it was chosen by FE Coscom Ltd., which operates as UCell, to provide a trial 3G network in Tashkent and Samarkand. The trial network includes HSPA technology.
–Vietnam: Motorola said it won contracts valued at $28 million with Viet Nam Posts and Telecommunications Group to expand Vinaphone’s GSM network in the country’s southeastern and south-central provinces.
WiMAX
–United States: Alvarion was chosen by Azulstar Inc. to provide its 802.16e BreezeMAX equipment for Azulstar’s 3.65 GHz networks in western Michigan and New Mexico. Azulstar also used products provided by Redline Communications for its New Mexico buildout.
Wi-Fi
–China: Aruba Networks said Southeast University in Nanjing has deployed its Wi-Fi solution across its six campuses. Southeast University has more than 26,000 students and 5,600 faculty.
–China: Trapeze Networks said it won the Hangzhou Wi-Fi Metropolitan Area Network project. The company said the deal calls for it to supply more than 3,000 access points in Hangzhou covering 6.5 million residents.
Miscellaneous
–The Netherlands: ProRail, the Dutch railway infrastructure provider, is upgrading its telecommunication system in conjunction with MobiRail, a joint venture of Nokia Siemens Networks and Dutch telecom operator KPN N.V. MobiRail is providing and end-to-end solution, including GSM-R technology, including network design, site acquisition, construction, logistics and project management.
–United States: InnerWireless Inc. said it was chosen by Beau RivageResort & Casino in Biloxi, Miss., to provide in-building cellular/PCS coverage, back-of-house wireless communications, two-way radios for first-responders and Wi-Fi for guests.
