VH1 is the latest cable programmer to launch an iPhone application, with the news today that it’s rolling out celebrity photos and show clips this month to the popular cellphone.
VH1’s effort follows iPhone app introductions earlier this week by cable networks TNT, Sci Fi and A&E.
The iPhone App Store, which logged 300 million downloads of applications in its first 150 days, is emerging as a popular distribution source for new features and services from TV networks and media companies.
VH1 also said it earned more than 2 million mobile video views in December. VH1 video streams delivered on mobile phones grew 93% from 2007 to 2008. Page views on VH1’s mobile Web site grew nearly seven times.
The cable network also is launching a mobile trivia game based on its show “Best Week Ever,” VH1 said.
