Cox hires two wireless execs to build 700 MHz network

Cox Communications Inc. is moving forward with its wireless plans by appointing a few more positions. Stephen Bye, Cox’s VP of wireless, announced the appointments of Raj Beri to VP of wireless product operations and Dane Dickie to executive director of wireless product development.
Cox announced last year that it would venture back into the wireless industry and build out a 3G network this year.
Beri will oversee the long-term operational processes and the overall direction of the cable company’s wireless product. Further, Beri will manage and coordinate the launch and deployment of Cox Wireless. Beri is also responsible for product architecture, development and support processes.
While no products or devices have been announced yet, Dickie’s new role will keep him busy behind the scenes in that department. He is responsible for directing and managing the development of devices and services for Cox’s wireless business unit. Down the line, Dickie will oversee the innovation and growth of Cox’s wireless product portfolio.
“Dane’s experience in numerous facets of the wireless business will provide the knowledge and product leadership we need in building a successful wireless business,” Bye said.
Cox will deploy on its 700 MHz assets at a later, unspecified date, said Cox spokeswoman Jill Ullman. Cox owns 12 megahertz of spectrum licenses covering 76% of its cable footprint. Further, the company has also said it will move toward the long term evolution technology (LTE) as its 4G upgrade, in time. No launch dates or locations have been released at this time. Cox declined to provide further information.
