Allied Wireless picks Little Rock for headquarters

Allied Wireless Communications Corp., the carrier that is buying some former Alltel wireless assets, said it is planning to locate its company headquarters in Little Rock, Ark., and hire between 200 and 250 employees, most of which will be highly paid professional and technical positions.
Atlantic Tele-Network, which owned Allied Wireless, said it plans to invest more than $200 million in the carrier, which expects to have more than 800,000 subscribers once the acquisition is completed, which is on schedule for early 2010. Frank O’Mara, a former executive vice president of Alltel, was named CEO of Allied in September. Verizon Wireless is selling the former Alltel assets as a requirement as part of its purchase of Alltel. Allied will offer serviced in six states.
