Verizon Wireless said it has chosen Spirent Communications to provide testing solutions for certification of devices that will operate on its 4G LTE network. Spirent will provide hardware, test simulators, system simulators and software for test automation, said the companies. Spirent is the first company Verizon has chosen to provide testing services for companies that want to offer devices for the planned network, but the company said it plans to announce additional testing solutions.
Clearwire Communications signed a two-year national distribution agreement with Teletouch Communications Inc. The deal gives Teletouch the right to sell Clearwire’s 4G services to its customers.
Vodacom South Africa has chosen Syniverse Technologies to optimize its mobile roaming operations. The carrier will use Syniverse’s Data Clearing House for GSM to manage its data clearing operations, which will make roaming accounting more efficient and speed data record exchanges.
Japanese convenience store chain Lawson is using an 802.11n wireless LAN solution from Aruba Networks Inc. to provide secure mobile access to its corporate applications by mobile employees. Lawson also is using Aruba’s Virtual Branch Networking solution for its teleworker program.
M2M company Numerex Corp. forged a partnership with Vodafone Ltd. that gives the company access to Vodafone’s data networks. Numerex will use Vodafone’s coverage as part of its Device, Network and Application (DNA) and FAST platforms to help its customers develop and introduce wireless solutions.
Openwave Systems announced a joint collaboration with African outsourced fixed-mobile convergence company Digital Solutions Group. The agreement calls for DSG to distribute Openwave products while it provides value-added services to carriers. The companies said solutions will include Openwave’s context-aware mobile Internet mediation and mobile analytics offering combined with professional services from DSG.
PCTel Inc., which provides wireless optimization solutions, acquired Sparco Technologies Inc., a Texas-based company that specializes in value-added WLAN products and services for the enterprise, education, hospitality and health care markets. Sparco’s product line includes antennas and mounting accessories, site survey tools and amplifiers.
Amobee Media Systems, a mobile advertising solutions company, said it entered an agreement to acquire mobile advertising agency RingRing Media.
Synchronoss Technologies Inc., which provides on-demand transaction management software platforms, said Dell Inc. has chosen its ConvergenceNow Plus platform to enable on-demand activations of Dell’s entire connected device portfolio, including its Android OS-based smart phone.
