EyeSight brings motion sensors to Symbian phones

Don’t have an iPhone? Not to worry, there are some great motion based apps out there for you anyway, even for your not-so-smart phone.

An Israeli firm called EyeSight has developed a technology that enables mobile devices to track movement via the handset’s camera.

For now, the firm is only working on Symbian devices, but don’t be surprised to see the firm expand its strategy very soon indeed.

Currently, EyeSight’s arsenal includes nine applications : Moove! An mp3 player and eyeCall –a phone utility which is controlled by hand movement only.

Spoon!, a mobile magic trick displaying the performer’s ability to bend cutlery with the power of ” “Thought.”

FartControl an app used to trick friends, and four other games, including Ninja Strike, which comes pre-load on some Nokia devices. All apps use the phone’s camera to detect user hand motions.

In an age where all three big game console manufacturers have choose to abandon ordinary game controllers in favor of motion tracking technology – Nintendo’s wii, Sony’s Playstation move, and Microsoft’s “Project Natal” – it was only a matter of time before the technology started to seep its way towards a mobile platform.

To see the next big thing from EyeSight, you might want to check out the ThinkNext event, due to take place on April 14th in Israel, where the firm will be presenting. *wink, wink*
