Clearwire rolls out hotspots and dongles for purchase or lease

Clearwire Corp. announced three new devices today for its expanding WiMAX network while reiterating its unlimited wireless data offering.
First up from the sole WiMAX torchbearer in the United States is the Clear Spot 4G, a mobile hotspot that can share Internet connectivity with up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled devices. The company is also offering a dual-mode mobile hotspot called Clear Spot 4G+, which enables users to automatically switch between Clearwire’s WiMAX network and Sprint Nextel Corp.’s network. Finally, the company announced Clear 4G+ Mobile USB, a WiMAX-only USB modem that’s compatible on Mac and Windows.
Clearwire is offering all three devices for purchase or a monthly lease of $5 to $6. The Clear Spot 4G, which is manufactured by Infomark Co. Ltd., will be available soon for $100 or a $5 monthly lease. Clearwire’s pair of new devices from Sierra Wireless, the Clear Spot 4G+ and Clear 4G+ Mobile USB, will be available for $225 or a $6 monthly lease or $115 or a $6 monthly lease respectively.
“In today’s on-the-go world, everyone deserves fast speeds and the usage they want at a fair price – without constantly checking their usage or worrying about their end of month bill,” said Dow Draper, vice president of product development for Clearwire. “These new devices offer today’s mobile user, and the millions of Wi-Fi products in use across the country, even greater access to Clear’s fast and affordable 4G service.”
Clearwire’s WiMAX network currently covers approximately 51 million people in the United States.
