Google Inc. (GOOG) rolled out a new feature that links the Chrome browser with devices running on the Android operating system.
The Chrome to Phone extension, which Google announced today at a news conference and in an accompanying blog post, is simply a button that can be added to a Chrome browser that sends content on a web page to an Android device. It’s not exactly the feature that’s going to make users of Apple Inc.’s (AAPL) iPhone or Research In Motion Ltd.’s (RIM) BlackBerry run for the latest Android device, but it is a good example of Google leveraging its massive user base to connect their mobile and online activity.
Google also introduced Voice Actions for Android, which equips users with a series of spoken commands that enable them to control different functions on their Android device. Voice Actions lets users access (and/or initiate) calls, contacts, messaging, music, web and common tasks by voice.
