Skype mobile migrates to select BREW devices

Skype Ltd. announced that it has expanded the reach of its agreement with Verizon Wireless (VZ) to now offer the Skype mobile application on “3G multimedia” devices running Qualcomm Inc.’s (QCOM) BREW platform.
The agreement builds on an announcement earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress event where the two companies announced an exclusive partnership for the Skype mobile application. The service initially included support for Research In Motion Ltd.’s (RIMM) BlackBerry devices and a trio of smart phones running Google Inc.’s (GOOG) Android operating system.
The application is similar to Skype’s service for personal computers that allows users to make free calls to other Skype users and a series of packages for calls placed from the Skype service to a landline or mobile number. Verizon Wireless requires that customers using the service have both a voice and data package.
The BREW version is initially available for LG Electronics Co. Ltd.’s enV Touch and Chocolate Touch and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.’s Reality models, and is available for a free download from Verizon Wireless’ application store or direct from Skype.
