Capital Markets: Fibertech goes private; Cricket acquires LCW Wireless interest; and more

Fibertech Networks entered a definitive agreement to be acquired by Court Square Capital Partners. Terms of the agreement call for Court Square to acquire the company from its original investors –Nautic Partners and Ridgemont Equity Partners. The transaction is expected to close before the end of the year. Fibertech said the acquisition allows it to keep operating as a private company. The company’s current management and employees will remain intact.
Leap Wireless International Inc. said its wholly owned subsidiary Cricket Communications Inc. completed its acquisition of all the remaining third-party membership interests in its joint venture LCW Wireless L.L.C. for $3.2 million in cash. LCW was formed as a joint venture among Cricket, CSM Wireless L.L.C. and WLPCS Management L.L.C. in July 2006. Leap purchased CSM’s 24% interest in the company earlier this year for $21 million. LCW provides Cricket service and holds FCC licenses in Portland, Salem and Eugene, Ore.
Texas Instruments completed its acquisition of two wafer fabrication facilities and equipment in Aizu-Wakamatsu, Japan. The facility previously was operated by Spansion Japan Ltd. and was purchased under a court-approved reorganization plan. TI said the facility expands its analog revenue by more than $1 billion annually. The second facility the company acquired is not currently operating and will be maintained for future capacity expansion, said TI.
Smooth-Stone has raised $48 million in an initial round of funding from ARM, Advanced Technology Investment Company, Battery Ventures, Flybridge Capital Partners, Highland Capital Partners and Texas Instruments.
Telus Corp. said it determined the redemption price of its partial 45.024% redemption on Sept. 2 of $613 million principal amount of its outstanding $1.3615 billion 8% notes due June 1, 2011.
Gemalto said its total revenues for the first half of 2010 grew 5% to 840 millio euros. Mobile communication revenues were up 5% also, to 452 million euros. The company reported a profit of 67 million Euros for the period.
