Today everything mobile seems to revolve around the concept of apps. Development, monetization, distribution, fragmentation – all terms the mobile world has become increasingly familiar with over the past few years. Thus, it comes as no surprise that when it comes to apps, there’s a conference for that – namely AppNation 2010, which Unplugged will be covering on location for the next couple of days.
The rather aptly named “AppNation – show me the money” conference taking place in San Francisco’s Moscone center on September 13 and 14 is all about the business of making money with mobile apps.
The organizer, Drew Ianni, a 15-year digital media and marketing industry veteran and former programming Chairman for ad:tech (who apparently threw in the towel with that organization due to red tape/politics) decided to build a new conference series around apps specifically, and AppNation is it.
Ianni is apparently pulling out all the stops, bringing all of his Madison Avenue relationships to the Valley to connect the innovators with the big brands and media channels who have finally realized how important mobile really is.
Speakers hailing from segments as diverse as media and entertainment, telecommunications, advertising, finance, technology and infrastructure will all be in attendance, as will a plethora of investors and buyers from the mobile industry in general.
According to Ianni, AppNation is designed “to push the applications industry forward by focusing on monetization, investment strategies and opportunities, new media business models, advertising and marketing best practices, as well as consumer insights and analytics.”
Easier said than done, admits Ianni who admitted it was “a tall order,” but that he had assembled key players from across the apps value chain and economy “to share and gain value added insights into the consumer applications economy, conduct some business, and have a little fun along the way.”
Mark Kvamme, a partner at Sequoia Capital, a leading venture capital firm based in Silicon Valley says he’s excited to attend AppNation to “see new and innovative companies and hear leading executives and entrepreneurs discuss the future of applications across an increasingly cross-platform media and communications landscape.”
Included in the long list of speakers at the event are by Ilja Laurs, the Founder and CEO of GetJar; Alex St. John, President and CTO at hi5; Matt Freeman, CEO of Mediabrands Ventures; Greg Stern, President of Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners; Rich Wong, Partner at Accel Partners; John Cantarella, SVP, Digital, News, Sports, and Business from Time Inc; Eric Bader, Chief Strategy Officer at Initiative Media (Interpublic); Tobias Kemper, GM, North America, Nimbuzz as well as other speakers and attendees from a diverse group of world-class companies such as Google, Marvel Entertainment, Time Inc, Nielsen, Sequoia Capital, Symbian Foundation, Adobe, The North Face, Ogilvy & Mather, Norwest Venture Partners, JP Morgan Chase, BlackBerry Partners Fund, Comcast Interactive Capital and many others.
Stay tuned and we’ll keep you posted from the event.
