Apple releases iOS 4.2 to iPad users' delight

Apple Inc. (AAPL) has rolled out an iOS 4.2 update that finally brings the latest features in iOS to iPad users. For starters, iPad users can finally enjoy background processing, multitasking and folders.
But there are two key new features — AirPrint and AirPlay — that will bring new wireless capabilities to iOS devices. AirPrint will enable iPhone users with compatible printers to print directly via a local wireless network.
AirPlay lets users wirelessly stream media to Apple TV and AirPlay compatible speakers and receivers, including AirPort Express. Not all of the existing services on Apple TV are compatible with the service yet. While the upgrade might not scream big changes out the gate, many are already wondering if and when users might be able to play iOS games on TV through AirPlay.
Apple also made a MobileMe feature called “Find My iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch” that helps users locate their missing device and protect its data available for free to all users. Once set up, users can find their device on a map, display a message on its screen, remotely set a passcode lock and initiate a remote wipe to delete data.
The operating system update also delivered a series of improvements. Here’s the full scoop on those improvements that users will see when they update their iOS:

– Support for Bluetooth accessories
• Find text on the web page in Safari
• New fonts setting available for Notes
• New SMS/MMS text tones and the ability to set custom tones per contact
• Additional restrictions (parental controls) available:
– Account settings
– App deletion
– Game Center friends
– Location settings
• Ability to import .ics files into Calendar
• Bug fixes, including:
– Eliminates sound artifacts occasionally captured in recorded audio with 4th generation iPod touch
– Improves audio playback to car stereos via USB
