The seventh Abacus International Conference 2010 held in Vietnam saw the unveiling of Abacus’ Next Generation Point-Of-Sale (POS) system and mobile initiatives – Abacus Mobile, Abacus WebStart Mobile, Abacus VirtuallyThere mobile, and TripCase. The plans are to make these initiatives active globally. Nkihil Dhodapkar, MD, Abacus Distribution Systems India said, “While Abacus VirtuallyThere mobile and TripCase are already available in the marketplace, Abacus Mobile is scheduled to launch in December 2011 in India. Similarly, Abacus WebStart Mobile will launch broadly in first quarter of 2011, this iPhone application will also be available for the Android and Blackberry version.” He further added that the Next Generation POS will be launched in beta by December this year with a broad launch in 2011.
The Next Generation POS has a graphical interface making this an easy to use booking tool with integration capabilities, which means that the travel agent can customise his workspace, putting everything that he needs to use. Abacus Mobile is a Web-based mobile point-of-sale where the travel agent is empowered to perform reservations, pricing, ticketing and access travel related information on their mobile device any time. Abacus WebStart Mobile is an iPhone based white label internet booking engine that gives the customers real-time access to flight rates and availability. Abacus VirtuallyThere mobile is a Web-based self-service traveller portal where travel agents can send their customers’ itineraries and eTickets via this solution, allowing their customers to access their travel information any time, anywhere from their mobile. Travel agents can also choose to co-brand the portal with their agency logo or marketing message, extending the agency’s reach and customer retention. TripCase is a travel application that provides both wireless and non-wireless connectivity. The auto-sync allows for automatic updates to itineraries, up-to-the-minute flight notifications, trip-specific messages and customised post-booking messages. Dhodapkar further added, “The introduction of 3G services in 2011 combined with the rapid penetration of smartphones in the Indian market make it a perfect market to launch mobile-based travel services. In addition, our next generation POS is aimed at making agencies more productive and allowing them to deliver better service to their clients. The mobile solutions not only allow the travel agents to make bookings, they are also able to extend their services to their customers by giving them the ability to book not just online but via their mobile phones.”
