KKBOX Taiwan, an operator of online streaming music services in Taiwan, and in the Hong Kong market through cooperation with Hutchison Telecom, witnesses an increase in its chargeable handset-based members from 19,000 in both markets to 35,000 at the end of March 2010 and further to 130,000 currently, according to the company.
The rapid increase was due to growing use of smartphones, KKBOX indicated. Of the chargeable members of mobile online streaming music currently, 100,000 use iPhone and 30,000 use Android handsets, KKBOX pointed out. KKBOX is negotiating with music publishers to launch DRM-free music available for download on various playback devices in the Taiwan market in 2011, the company indicated.
