Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) has landed OEM orders of smartphones and tablets for US-based LCD TV vendor Vizio.
Market sources indicated that Vizio aims to challenge leading vendors such as Samsung Electronics and Sony in the consumer electronics (CEs) market. There will be over 45 vendors competing in the tablet PC market, and a price war is expected to happen, market sources estimate. Prices for tablet PC are expected to drop up to 30-40%.
Global tablet PC shipments in 2010 are expected to reach 18 million units and grow to 50-60 million units in 2011, and LG Display, who is the leading suppliers of tablet PCs, is more optimistic regarding the market and expects the market to reach 80 million units worldwide.
