Ecuador’s telecommunication ministry announces multimillion investment

In a press release yesterday Jaime Guerrero Ruiz, the head of Ecuador’s telecommunication ministry, announced a multimillion investment to improve internet and communication services in Ecuador. The ministry (MINTEL) signed a $13.5M deal with Telconet which will provide broadband internet access to several areas in Ecuador focusing on rural areas with limited connectivity. The project’s objective is not only to provide internet access but also to provide the training and technical support needed to educate the organizations that will benefit from the services. Mintel is planning to reach 947 educational establishments and 26 social development organizations in 22 provinces. The project is predicted to take six months.
