Vodafone Group Plc announced that Sir John Bond, the chairman of Vodafone, will be retiring from the board in July 2011. He will be succeeded as chairman by Gerard Kleisterlee, currently president/CEO and chairman of the board of management and the group management committee of Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V. Kleisterlee will be retiring from Philips in March of 2011 and will be appointed as a non-executive director of Vodafone in April 2011.
Atlantic Tele-Network Inc. announced that Paul R. Bowersock has joined the company as president of international operations. Bowersock will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive marketing and sales strategies while leading the growth of ATN’s international subsidiaries. This will include wireless and wireline, terrestrial and submarine fiber optics companies in Guyana, Bermuda and across the Caribbean. Bowersock joins ATN after 20 years of experience with Alltel Communications, directing sales and marketing strategies across all channels of distribution in his most recent position as senior sales and operations leader.
Alcatel-Lucent announced that Lucy Dimes and Sir Christopher Bland will be joining the company to lead its U.K. and Ireland activities. Alcatel-Lucent has appointed Dimes to succeed Lakh Jemmett as the new CEO of its operations in U.K. and Ireland. Lucy joins Alcatel-Lucent most recently from BT Operate, where she was managing director of Group & Openreach Service Operations. Bland will become non-executive chairman for Alcatel-Lucent’s U.K. entity effective immediately, deploying his extensive business, government and telecommunications expertise to the operations in the U.K. and Ireland. Bland has held roles as chairman of the BBC, chairman of LWT, senior adviser at Warburg Pincus, and chairman of BT.
Leap Wireless International Inc. named former Dell executive Raymond J. Roman as chief operating officer. Roman will oversee the company’s marketing, network operations, customer care and retention and supply-chain management. He succeeds Moschner, who retired. Roman most recently held several senior executive positions at Dell and previously worked at the former Motorola Inc.
