BARCELONA, Spain – Though it had already been rumored and leaked a few weeks ago, Qualcomm Inc. confirmed this week that future Android devices powered by the Snapdragon processor would be able to run Netflix Inc.’s content service.
The popular video service has been previously unavailable on Android owing to purported security concerns, a major gripe for most users.
Qualcomm has apparently been able to bypass the security concerns with its “media protection features in a turnkey package,” making it easier for the devices Snapdragon powers to pass through the approval process required for Netflix certification.
As well as the baked on security features, Qualcomm says Netflix video decoding is also better handled by its hardware, which it says makes for better picture quality and longer battery life.
