Capital Markets: Juniper acquires Brilliant assets; Vivo announces public tender; and more

FiberTower Corp., a wireless backhaul services provider, announced that it received an early termination notice from one of its emerging carrier customers to terminate service at approximately 220 billing locations on Feb. 28, and that the customer is reviewing approximately 50 additional locations for possible early termination by March 31. Juniper Networks announced it has acquired certain assets, including all the intellectual property, of Brilliant Telecommunications Inc., a supplier of next-generation packet-based, network synchronization equipment and monitoring solutions. The acquisition cost approximately $4.5 million in cash. Brilliant Telecommunications’ intellectual property addresses the complex timing and synchronization requirements of networks.

Vivo, a mobile phone service provider in Brazil, stated that Telefonica will hold a public tender for outstanding common shares in Vivo. The public tender will be held March 18 and Telefonica will offer 50.15 Euros per share and will pay up to $1 billion.

HIG Europe, the European arm of global private equity firm HIG Capital, announced that funds advised by HIG European Capital Partners have acquired Fibercore, a U.K.-based designer and manufacturer of specialty optical fibers, from Cisco.
