Royal Tunbridge Wells, March 1, 2011. – Porta Ecuador has launched Messenger Porta, a mobile instant messaging service based on and powered by Synchronica’s hosted instant messaging and presence service (IMPS) platform.
Synchronica’s technology is based on the IMPS industry standard, removing the barrier to entry for Porta’s subscribers and making high adoption rates more likely. The solution has already generated significant customer traction among other carriers in the América Móvil group.
The highly appealing, carrier-branded service offers all 10.3 million subscribers a Porta-branded mobile IM identity, giving Porta the opportunity to establish a thriving operator-owned / operator-branded IM community. The service also acts as a churn inhibitor because defecting to a rival carrier would mean the loss of IM identity.
Synchronica’s IMPS solution provides a complete, scalable, and OMA standards-compliant mobile operator messaging service. As well as providing the technology, Synchronica offers a range of pre- and post-launch services that draw on the company’s experience in successful IM deployments around the globe.
These services include working closely with carriers on pricing, advertising campaigns, and other areas of marketing aimed at optimizing adoption rates.
“Our solution is already generating good customer traction”
Porta customers can register for the Messenger Porta service by visiting the dedicated portal or by their phone’s WAP menu.
Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica, says: “Our dedicated launch team works closely with all our customers to ensure a smooth and successful service launch, drawing on our experience during past deployments. Our solution is already generating good customer traction for other subsidiaries of the América Móvil group, and we expect it to do the same for Porta.”
According to Informa, IM revenues in the Latin America region will grow significantly over the next five years, from around USD 1.3 billion at the end of 2010 to USD 3.3 billion by the end of 2015.
Latin America is well ahead of the world average in mobile phone penetration, having reached an average of 93 percent penetration in mid-2010 against a global rate of around 73 percent. Over 80 percent of the region’s mobile subscribers are on pre-paid plans [1].
