Samsung to host free bada code camp in Austin

Samsung logoAUSTIN-Samsung Electronics will host a series of free, interactive, full-day bada platform code camps in Austin, Texas; Atlanta; Boston; Denver and Vancouver, B.C., Canada, to cover the basics of the open platform and how to deploy applications into the bada app store for use on Samsung mobile devices. The one-day camps will occur on different days depending on the city and will be in Austin on Thursday, March 10 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency on Lady Bird Lake.

While Samsung uses Google Inc.’s Android platform on its U.S. handsets, the company is trying to make headway with its bada operating system in the feature-phone market worldwide.
Morning sessions will cover application development including the latest bada market updates, available devices and the Samsung developers’ program. In the afternoon, engineers will be able to get hands-on experience with the bada platform in conjunction with a the team of bada experts, who will address the full development cycle of creating a bada application and answer questions.

Topics covered should include the newly released bada software development kit, which includes the integrated development environment (IDE), simulator, user inferface builder, sample applications, documentation and tutorials.

The Samsung bada open platform allows developers to create applications in mobile spaces through the Samsung TouchWiz user interface. The bada platform supports a control for Adobe Flash, a web browser, motion sensing, vibration control, and face detection. The bada platform also offers social networking, content management, location-based services, and commerce services that are all supported by back-end bada servers.

Attendance is free but registration is required. More information for the Austin event can be found at: http://ausbadacodecamp.eventbrite.com/.
