PORT ANTONIO, Jamaica, March 2, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ — Dekal Wireless and Altai Technologies are proud to announce the completion of the world’s first SuperWiFi broadband network with nationwide coverage in Jamaica.  Dekal Wireless is an early adopter of Altai’s SuperWiFi wireless technology. Its SuperWiFi network provides broadband speed between 4 Mbs to 10 Mbs for each user using Altai’s Super WiFi equipment.  The SuperWiFi service is available in over 30 towns and cities inJamaica and is a fully integrated network providing roaming ability – one account, access anywhere on the network.

On Mar 1, 2011, Dekal Wireless with the assistance of Altai Technologies, completed phase 2 coverage bringing the final portion of Jamaica online.  The network will serve over 1 million residents and provide internet to Jamaicans with limited or no internet access.  The first phase of its network in 9 towns of Jamaica was launched in July 2010.

David Lee, CEO of Dekal Wireless said, “We are delighted to have partnered with Altai whose team effort in completing the network has been fantastic.  We have proved that WiFi does not need to be confined to hotspots and can be deployed as a typical cellular wireless service.  Altai’s technology is the world’s finest WiFi network system and we are happy to be a part of this.”

Altai’s Super WiFi technology requires significantly fewer units per square mile of coverage and allows much higher data transmission speed and larger user capacity at range than conventional WiFi products.

“We are pleased to be selected by Dekal for this remarkable project.  The unique design of Altai Super WiFi equipment provides high flexibility and cost savings to the Jamaica deployment and I believe the residents and visitors of Jamaica are now able to enjoy a reliable and affordable SuperWiFi network.”

Jamaica is the largest English speaking island in the Caribbean and the third largest in the region.  With a total land area of 4,442 square miles (10,991 sq. km.), the island is 146 miles long with widths varying between 22 and 51 miles (35 and 82km).  Jamaica’s population is approximately 2.7 million.
